Project Supervisor Policy for Students

1. Purpose:  

This policy outlines the procedure for students at Meadow Hall College of Education who wish to request a change of academic or project supervisor. The policy ensures that such requests are managed transparently, equitably, and in the best interest of the student’s academic progress as well as in the best interest of the college.

2. Scope:  

This policy applies to all students enrolled in the College, particularly those engaged in research projects, teaching practice, or capstone projects requiring a designated supervisor.

Reasons for Requesting a Change

Students may request a change of supervisor for the following reasons:

– Conflicting schedules or availability

– Personal conflicts affecting the working relationship

– Inadequate guidance or support from the current supervisor

– Change in the research/project direction requiring a different expertise

– Health or personal concerns

Eligibility

– The student must have been assigned to their current supervisor for at least one month.

– The student is encouraged to try resolving any issues with their supervisor before making a formal request.

3. Procedure

  1. Initial Discussion:  

   Students are encouraged to discuss their concerns with their current supervisor to attempt to resolve the issues informally.

  1. Formal Request:  

   If issues persist, the student may submit a formal written request to the registrar (registrar@meadowhalleducation.com) or the designated academic coordinator (oajayi@meadowhallgroup.com). The request should include:

   – A clear explanation of the reason for the requested change.

   – Evidence or examples of attempts to resolve the issue informally.

   – Any preferences regarding the new supervisor, if applicable (e.g., expertise or availability).

  1. Review Process:  

   The academic committee will review the request within 10 working days. This review may include:

   – Meetings or consultations with both the student and the current supervisor.

   – Consideration of the student’s academic needs and the college’s resources.

  1. Decision:

   A decision will be communicated to the student within 5 working days of submitting the request. The decision will take into account:

   – The reasons provided by the student.

   – Availability of other supervisors within the college.

   – The impact on both the student’s academic progress and the school.

    5. Transition: 

   If the request is approved, a transition plan will be established to ensure continuity in the student’s academic work. This may include:

   – Possible meetings to facilitate the transition.

4. Confidentiality

All requests and discussions related to the change of supervisor will be handled confidentially. The privacy of both the student and the supervisor will be respected.

5.  Appeals Process

If a student is dissatisfied with the decision, they may submit an appeal to the Registrar (registrar@meadowhalleducation.com) or the academic coordinator (oajayi@meadowhallgroup.com)]. The appeal should outline the grounds for dissatisfaction and will be reviewed within 14 days. The decision made after the appeal will be final.
