The Accelerated Teacher Professionalisation Pathway is a Federal Government intervention designed to strengthen teacher quality and accelerate the professionalisation of people who are teaching, or intend to enter the teaching profession, without recognised professional teaching qualifications.
The initiative brings together the Federal Ministry of Education, National Teachers’ Institute, Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria and accredited delivery institutions. Meadow Hall College of Education participates as an Accredited ATPP Delivery Partner.
Who Should Apply
The pathway is intended for eligible applicants who require professional teacher preparation, including:
- BSc or HND holders whose qualifications are not in Education
- ND or OND holders
- Educators working in public and non-state schools
- Community instructors and volunteer educators
- Facilitators in non-formal and alternative learning environments
- TVET instructors who require professional teacher preparation
ATPP Qualification Pathways
PGDE Pathway
For eligible applicants with a Bachelor's degree or Higher National Diploma who do not possess a recognised professional teaching qualification.
PDE Pathway
For eligible applicants with an ND, OND or equivalent qualification who require professional teacher preparation.
Programme Delivery
Participants undertake a structured six-month teacher-professionalisation programme that combines academic learning with practical professional preparation.

How ATPP Differs from the PDE
ATPP and Meadow Hall College of Education’s PDE both support teacher professionalisation, but they serve different purposes and follow different structures. What is the Accelerated Teacher Professionalisation Pathway ATPP?

Who must participate?

How long will the programme last?
The ATPP initiative will run in cohorts until 2027. The participant learning pathway is six months. Further cohort timelines will be communicated by the relevant authorities.
Is there financial support?

Can I pay the ATPP fee in instalments?
Yes. The total programme fee of N200,000 may be paid in three instalments: N70,000 at admission; N70,000 before the Month 2 Tutor-Marked Assignment; and N60,000 in Month 4 before deployment for Teaching Practice.
Does the programme fee cover my TRCN certificate and licence?
The fee covers programme training and eligibility to sit the TRCN Professional Qualifying Examination. For participants who pass the examination, the TRCN certificate and licence are also covered.
What happens if a participant misses an instalment deadline?
A participant who does not pay an instalment by the specified deadline may be temporarily restricted from relevant programme activities. This may include access to coursework, completion of a Tutor-Marked Assignment or progression to Teaching Practice. Access may be restored when the outstanding payment is made. Continued non-payment may result in withdrawal from the cohort.

How is ATPP different from Meadow Hall College of Education’s PDE?
ATPP is a six-month accelerated teacher-professionalisation pathway designed mainly to help eligible non-professional teachers meet professional certification and licensing requirements. The PDE is a one-year postgraduate academic and professional programme. PDE graduates earn a Postgraduate Diploma in Education and may apply for relevant Master’s programmes in selected Nigerian universities and universities outside Nigeria, subject to the receiving institution’s admission and recognition requirements.
